Adventure #12: Rescue at Rivenroar
Difficulty: Level 3
The town of Brindol has experienced a time of peace after the war with the goblins of the Red Hand. Recently several citizens of the town have gone missing, and relics of the war have been stolen, leading many to wonder if Brindol will ever find peace. Who will search the forest and discover what has happened to these unfortunate townsfolk and bring them back alive?

Follow up:
Roaming One headed through the woods toward Brindol.
Encounter 1: Forest (Magic)
A hobgoblin warcaster confronted Roaming One in a gnarled grove of trees. It's clothing was decorated with the bones of its victims, and it held a glowing staff.
Roaming One made a Charisma check with a difficulty of 13 . . . and rolled 5
He tried to talk the warcaster out of fighting, but just ended up making it madder. The hobgoblin leader leveled his staff at Roaming One and a bolt of lightning crashed into his chest. Roaming One was staggered but managed to take down the evil wizard before it could cast another spell.
Roaming One took 9 damage.
Roaming One received 19 XP and 8 gold.
Encounter 2: Forest
Roaming One was having lunch on a old tree stump with a couple of other adventurers he had met in the woods when a spiretop drake swooped down and grabbed one of the other adventurer's packs. Roaming One immediately jumped up and gave chase on foot.
Roaming One made a Constitution check with a difficulty of 13 . . . and rolled 19
The chase was long and exhausting, but Roaming One's steady pace and strong constitution allowed him to keep the drake in sight. Finally, it dipped down and dropped the pack on a large rock on top of a hill and flew off. Upon reaching the rock, Roaming One found the pack and some other things as well.
Roaming One received 68 XP and 2 gold.
Roaming One received a pair of Catstep Boots.
After arriving at Brindol, Roaming One began questioning the remaining townsfolk about the disappearances.
Encounter 3: Story Encounter
An ogre with scruffy ape-like features rounded a corner, and townsfolk screamed and ran in all directions. The ogre had a cart full of barrels in tow. He lit a fuse on one of the barrels and threw it down the road toward Roaming One.
Roaming One made a Strength check with a difficulty of 13 . . . and rolled 11
Roaming One jumped the first barrel, but was knocked back by the second. Undeterred, he tried again . . . and again . . . each time Roaming One couldn't get past the second barrel. Fortunately a little boy was sneaking up on the cart and, while the ogre was focused on Roaming One, the boy was able to light the remaining barrels on fire. They exploded, killing the monkey-faced monster.
Roaming One took 2 damage.
Roaming One received 22 XP and 3 gold.
The remains of the cart had a mark of Sinruth on them, an infamous hobgoblin living in a dungeon in the woods on the other side of Brindol. Roaming One set off immediately.
Encounter 4: Forest
When a spitting drake came crashing through the leaves straight for him, naturally Roaming One killed it. When an axe-bearing dwarf came charging out of the same leaves a minute later, he was pretty mad at Roaming One for killing his prey.
Roaming One made a Charisma check with a difficulty of 13 . . . and rolled 20
Appealing to his protective side, he convinced the dwarf that it didn't matter who killed it, so long as the forest was made a safer place. The dwarf calmly pondered this, then agreed. Because the dwarf needed the carcass as proof of the kill, he paid Roaming One for the right to claim it.
Roaming One received 88 XP and 30 gold.
Sinruth's dungeon, Rivenroar, was easy to find . . . perhaps a little too easy.
Encounter 5: Dungeon (Traps)
Roaming One entered a cavern and found an overturned mine cart with the lower half of a human body jutting out from under it. Chunks of silver ore were scattered about the room.
Roaming One made a Wisdom check with a difficulty of 13 . . . and rolled 6
Roaming One quickly rushed to pull out the body, but as soon as the cart crashed to the ground, a sonic trap triggered! Roaming One, dazed and bleeding from the ears, still managed to gather up some ore before moving on.
Roaming One took 6 damage.
Roaming One gets -3 Wisdom for 2 encounters.
Roaming One received 15 XP and 6 gold.
Encounter 6: Dungeon
Roaming One ventured into an abandoned kitchen where he discovered some soup in a stone bowl. "EAT THIS" was scratched into the table beside it. Suspicious. Who knew how long it had been there . . .
Roaming One made a Constitution check with a difficulty of 13 . . . and rolled 20
The taste was horribly foul, but thanks to his cast-iron stomach, Roaming One managed to keep it down. Good thing, too, because after a few minutes he began to feel much more powerful.
Roaming One gets +4 Attack Bonus for 6 encounters.
Roaming One received 91 XP.
Roaming One gained a level!
Encounter 7: Dungeon (Magic)
Roaming One entered a room where the walls were covered with glowing blue runes of various shapes and sizes.
Roaming One made an Intelligence check with a difficulty of 13 . . . and rolled 10
Roaming One thought he had deciphered the message. It turned out that he had gotten the part about the secret, treasure-filled room right but missed the part about the trap that bathed him in fire.
Roaming One took 7 damage.
Roaming One received 22 XP and 11 gold.
Encounter 8: Final Encounter
Finally, Roaming One found Sinruth''s audience chamber. It was a long room, with a wall-to-wall pit across the middle. Roaming One was on one side, and Sinruth himself was on the other. He swung his long spiked chain over his head, faster and faster before aiming it right at Roaming One''s face.
Roaming One made an Intelligence check with a difficulty of 14 . . . and rolled 20
In a moment of inspiration, Roaming One held up his mace to intercept the chain. The chain wrapped around it twice, and while Sinruth looked on in shock, Roaming One yanked his chain, dragging him into the pit. Unfortunately for the hobgoblin, he had filled this pit in his audience chamber with extra sharp spikes. Roaming One searched the nearby rooms for a board to use as a bridge and was able to rescue the townsfolk who were locked in cages in the far corner of the room.
Roaming One received 168 XP and 50 gold.
Roaming One received a Sentinel's Brooch.
Having successfully completed the adventure, Roaming One headed home to rest.
