Adventure #10 : Tomb of the Lizard King (This time Roaming One Success!)

by john Email

Difficulty: Level 2

While doing some charity work at the orphanage, Roaming One met a little boy who told him a wild tale of his parents being murdered by a hideous lizard king in the Slugslick swamp. The lizard king and his lizardfolk lackeys dragged the boy into a graveyard, but before they carried him down into the tomb of the lizard king, he bit his captor and escaped. The kid could have made it all up, but what sort of hero calls an orphan a liar?

He was using a ten-foot pole to probe the ground in front of him. Suddenly the pole plunged deep below the surface. Swishing it left and right to clear the leaves out of the way, Roaming One revealed a pit trap! He decided to roll a big rock into the trap and hide nearby to catch whoever set it. When the brigands came to check on their trap, he was ready for them.

Full of fear and lacking understanding, Roaming One charged the witch, weapon ready to strike her down. The witch cackled and, with the flick of her wrist and wave of her wand, lifted Roaming One into the air. She tumbled him slowly end over end, completely helpless. After a brief lecture on politeness and something about paper wrappings around tomes, she tossed Roaming One to the ground and let him go his merry way.

Long before the curse of the Felwitch Donnarb poisoned the area, the graveyard was on a grassy plain, not in the middle of a swamp. Roaming One sloshed through the rusted gate the somehow still stood despite the rest of the fence having rusted away decades ago.

Encounter 4: Graveyard

Exploring an ancient dragonborn catacomb, Roaming One was surprised by the lack of loot. Usually it would be interred with the skeletal remains lining every nook and cranny of the place.

In the center of the graveyard an open tomb beckoned. Roaming One descended into the darkness.

Roaming One made an Intelligence check with a difficulty of 13 . . . and rolled 18

Roaming One analyzed the potion with a critical eye. He popped the cork and sniffed it, noting the subtle hint of raspberries. He shrugged, nodded, and tipped it back, chugging it in one gulp. Sure enough, in moments his wounds were healed!

After searching the entire dungeon and finding no trace of the lizard king, Roaming One returned to the graveyard. As he stepped from one musty environment into another he ran smack into a large lizardy looking humanoid.

Encounter 7: Final Encounter

The lizard king growled and flexed his enormously muscled arms. Clearly a grappling contest was not in Roaming One's best interest. He should end this with a decisive blow.

Roaming One made an Attack Bonus check with a difficulty of 17 . . . and rolled 24

Lunging forward, Roaming One crushed the lizard king with his mace. The monster let out a yelp surprisingly like that of a chipmunk and crumpled to the ground. Roaming One dragged the king back to town to prove that the little boy was telling the truth -- and collect a hefty reward!

Roaming One received 144 XP and 51 gold.

Having successfully completed the adventure, Roaming One headed home to rest.
